Congratulation RICHARD FLANAGAN. For the Man Booker Prize awarded to his novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North. The Man Booker Prize for Fiction is a literary prize awarded each year for the best original novel, written in the English language and published in UK. The prize money amounts to 50,000 British Pounds. The awarded novel is woven around the World War ll Japanese death railway constructed from Thailand to Burma. And built under appalling conditions by prisoners of war and native slave labor. It ranges much farther across the pre - and postwar lives of the prisoners and their captors. Especially that of Dorrigo Evans, the protagonist, an Australian POW medical officer and later a successful surgeon but a less successful husband and philanderer. Richard Flanagan hails from Tasmania, a tiny mining town, deep in the Australian rainforest. His grandparents were illiterate. He never shies away from his humble pedigree in public. Like Indian PM Narendra Modi. He has been an activist. He led the agitations against pulp mills,Australias refugee policy, the countrys treatment of aborigines and loggers. He was a ruthless critique against Mr John Howard, the 25th and second - longest serving Australian prime minister. Against Mr Kevin Rudd, twice the prime minister of Australia. Five of his previous novels are Death of A River Guide, The Sound of One Hand Clapping, Goulds Book of Fish,The Unknown Terrorist, and Wanting.
