Congratulations Drs. Shi and Bhattacharya! Cottrell College Science Award winner Mishkatul Bhattacharya (2012) has reason to be proud. His student, Hao Shi, has just won the APS LeRoy Apker Prize recognizing the nation’s best undergraduate research in physics. Hao was directly supported by the CCSA funding. Mishkatul reported four peer-reviewed papers with Hao Shi at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2013, two of them acknowledging RCSA support. These are: “Mechanical memory for photons with orbital angular momentum,” published in Journal of Physics B (2013) and “Coupling a small torsional oscillator to large optical angular momentum,” published in Journal of Modern Optics (2013). We also note that Mishkatul was a postdoc of the internationally known friend of RCSA, University of Arizona Regents Professor of physics and optical sciences Pierre Meystre.
