Congratulations on completing your first day of No Impact Week, which focused on Consumption! By now, you understand that the No Impact Experiment is a one-week carbon cleanse. It is a chance for you to see what a difference no-impact living can have on your quality of life. It’s not about giving up creature comforts but an opportunity for you to test whether the modern “conveniences” you take for granted are actually making you happier or just eating away at your time and money. (Feel free to come out to our 2nd annual Frock Swap tomorrow during both lunches to donate or take items of use.) The No Impact Theme for Tuesday, November 19th is Trash Before we get to the traditional No Impact Week info, please watch the following as it relates to the Great Garbage Patch collective-evolution/2013/09/23/something-the-entire-world-should-see-most-of-us-are-simply-unaware/ Here are some resources to help you and your students think more about the trash we create. Video Clip: from No Impact Man can be found here: Video: vimeo/20316406 Research and Action Project: Give up bottled water. The production of plastic water bottles together with the privatization of our drinking water is an environmental and social catastrophe. Bottled water costs more per gallon than gasoline. Plus, the health consequences of drinking water from plastic are not clear. Ask students to do their own research on water bottle waste, and share what they learn with the class. Visit the closest landfill or waste processing center and help others experience the place by taking photos or a video under two minutes in length. Show others what the place looks like and how much trash they see on a daily basis by posting your findings on one of our Facebook pages: https://facebook/TuhsdNoImapctWeek or https://facebook/NoImpactWeekAtDesertVistaHighSchool or https://facebook/ths.noimpactweek If its too far away, consider simply interviewing your trash collector to get the scoop. Have a great day!
