Congratulations once again to Aboriginal artist Nicole Foreshew, who was last night announced as the winner of the 2014 Parliament of New South Wales Aboriginal Art Prize for her work It comes without seeking 1. Courtesy of our partners Campbelltown City Council, Arts NSW, Coal & Allied and the UNSW Faculty of Art & Design, Nicole was awarded the $40,000 main Prize. Meanwhile, It comes without seeking 1 will now become part of the Parliaments permanent collection of fine art. Congratulations Nicole! Congratulations also to another young Aboriginal artist, Nicole Monks, who was awarded the UNSW Faculty of Art & Designs Indigenous Professional Development Award, which includes a residency at UNSW and the chance to host a solo exhibition at their gallery. Nicole was chosen as the lucky recipient for her work My Country, Mine Country. Click through the gallery of photos to see more from the awards night, which was well attended by the artists and their families, members of Parliament and representatives from all of our event partners. It was a wonderful night and a wonderful opportunity to come together in recognition of the creativity and talent of contemporary Aboriginal arts in New South Wales. The 2014 Parliament of NSW Aboriginal Art Prize is currently on exhibition at Parliament House. Entry is free, with doors open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
