Congratulations to Rory McIlroy on winning the Claret Jug Sunday. I’m sure you’ve all seen the pictures and know the story from The Open Championship, so here in Golfbidder we thought we know bring you the alternative highlights from an action packed week. Best Fan Art Unfortunately we didn’t get to see Miguel Angel Jimenez at his best on the course at Hoylake, but this piece of fan art was amazing. An amateur artist called James Howe produced this image of The Mechanic on a wooden pallet. Im told Howe actually fits suspended ceilings as his day job; I think hes in the wrong business, this is awesome. Best Driving Tracer Hats off to the BBC for their tracer feature on the first hole. Over the course of four days we saw some of the best players in the world duck hook and leak drives off the tee, such were the nerves. Rory McIlroy’s opening drive on Sunday absolutely took the biscuit however; it was arrow straight and a real statement of intent. Rors ended the week with a driving distance clip of 327 yards on average compared to the rest of the field’s 288 yards. When he was driving as straight as this the writing was on the wall. Rory’s biggest boomer of the week was on the 17th hole on Friday where aided by the breeze he unleashed a 396 yard drive. You could kick it onto the green from there, remarked Ken Brown in commentary! Check out the biggest one here - https://youtube/embed/659uHanPgc4 Best Flip Out There were a lot of people inside the ropes at The Open. Normally its a perk enjoyed (and very much respected) by media scribes and photographers, but every man and his granny seem to be wandering inside the holy blue nylon rope at Hoylake. The issue came to a head on Friday when Bubba Watson, who by his own admission gets a bit claustrophobic in crowds, flipped out at the number of people who seemed to be milling around him. Its just...theres just a thousand people in this fairway, pleaded Watson. All I want to do is play golf, thats all I want to do. Toys back in the pram Bubba! It was only when he arrived on the range at Hoylake and inspected the bag Rose realized that his TaylorMade SLDR 430 was missing. He had been swinging it the garden the night before and forgot to put it back in the bag! Rosey was forced to tee off in his second round with 13 clubs while the driver was being fetched. It was eventually brought out to Rose on the third hole. It is within the rules to have a club delivered during the round. I hope they also checked the oven. He might have left that on too! Best Moment Of Madness Ernie Els produced a moment of madness on the very first green at The Open Championship which all but ended his chances of winning another Claret Jug. Having hit a spectator with his opening drive (and not shouted fore) a visibly unnerved Els first let an eight inch putt slide by the hole, before attempting to backhand in the following putt which also missed. The incident cost Els a triple bogey. “There was blood everywhere,” Els said, describing the gash opened on the spectator’s face, “I really felt bad about hurting the guy the way I did.” Should’ve shouted ‘fore’ Ernie!
