Congratulations to members of the Hypothermia Program Code Compliance Facilitation Team who were honored with Team Excellence Awards on Nov. 7 in the Fairfax County Government Center Forum!! At the end of the 2009/2010 Hypothermia Program year, several Fairfax County agencies and departments worked with our nonprofit providers to ensure they met the applicable fire and building codes. The committee that was formed working through a myriad of challenges as they looked at the county’s options when allowing the change of building use on a temporary basis to provide a place for the homeless when temperatures dropped. Thanks to the substantial efforts made by various people, by the end of the 2013/2014 hypothermia season all of the locations currently in use were compliant, allowing the participants to have both a warm and safe place to stay. fairfaxcounty.gov/homeless/hypothermia-prevention/
