Congratulations to the CNCC Rodeo Team! The Mens Team brought home their first win in school history! Coach Moore reports: It was a great weekend to be a Spartan Cowboy or Cowgirl! At the double header weekend at Weber State college rodeo in Ogden, UT, your CNCC Rodeo team took on the 9 other schools in the Rocky Mountain Region. Vying for precious points to finish the year end standings in the top three in each of their events, the Spartans came to play with CNFR qualifications in their eyes. At the first rodeo of 2014, the Spartans got off to a bit of a slow start, the cattle were fast and the rough stock bucked hard. At the end of the Spring Season opener, the Spartans finished at the middle of the pack with a strong 2nd place finish by Jesse Anderson in the bareback riding, and assistance from the roping end by Clay Crozier, Brody Adams, and Jeremiah Fat. The second rodeo of the weekend proved to be a turning point for the Spartans. Led by sophomores, Brice Osborne in the bull riding and Jesse Anderson in the bareback riding on the rough stock end, and timed event cowboys Clay Crozier and Brody Adams, the CNCC Mens rodeo team accomplished something that had never been done in school history. When the dust settled, CNCC had accumulated more points than any other team. Our first team event win! We have placed second to annual national power house CSI on two other occasions but had been unable to pull off the win until this weekend. CNCC Spartans qualified 11 out of 15 contestants for the championship round on Saturday night. Sophomore Devon Vondette finally had the breakout weekend that we knew she was capable of, qualifying for the championship round in two of her three events. Courtney Hibbs took home 4th place points in the breakaway roping Karlee Worthen and partner Jeremiah Fat snagged some points in the Team Roping, Taylor Duzik along with heeler Devon Vondette roped very consistent catching all three of their steers. Chris Bushaw paired with new partner Whitney Dansie from Weber State also roped well into the points. The Spartans will head to Twin Falls, ID for the CSI Rodeo this weekend for the 7th rodeo of the season. GOOOO SPARTANS!!!!!
