Congratulations to the last Tier 2 class of the year! You have put forth a tremendous amount of dedication, hard work, and persistence in your journey for a deeper, and more emotionally-vivid connection with another human being. You have grown, you have experienced, and you have learned to respond with the utmost truth & honesty in your performance. Were proud to have known you, and we hope youll go out & bring that realism to the stage that you have shown on ours. Remember, we do not fake/illustrate/indicate our emotions. We have truth in everything that we do, or we dont do it at all. As Chekhov once said, An actor must burn inside with an outer ease. You now have that fire in your belly that stems from truth, and allows you to not only access emotions, but to respond with an emotional truth to your scene partner. Youre now able to truthfully carry on an emotional conversation with another person without fear of what is & what isnt socially acceptable. You have pushed the boundaries of your comfort zone, as well as the comfort zones of others. Remember, if the audience remembers how much they paid for that ticket, youre not doing your job! As you go out onto bigger & greater auditions & performances, remember that Truth is the blood of art. Without it, we have no foundation to stand on. Without it, emotional honesty fails to exist. If were not honest with our scene partners, how can our audience believe us? Now be gone with you! Make us proud! Well see you in 2014 for the Advanced Program! Farewell, thou art too dear for my possessing, And like enough thou know’st thy estimate. The charter of thy worth gives thee releasing; My bonds in thee are all determinate. For how do I hold thee but by thy granting, And for that riches where is my deserving? The cause of this fair gift in me is wanting, And so my patent back again is swerving. Thyself thou gav’st, thy own worth then not knowing, Or me, to whom thou gav’st it, else mistaking; So thy great gift, upon misprision growing, Comes home again, on better judgment making.
