Congress established the first week of October as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). The West Palm Beach VAMC will observe MIAW through the following supportive activities: Mental Health Fair: October 7th, 11A.M.-1 P.M., Room 4B-292 Please join us for an interactive event to learn about resources to support recovery and wellness including VA programs, peer support, self-management tools and community supports. Don’t miss the live demonstrations during the Mental Health Fair: 11:00 A.M.: Fair Kickoff Musical Performance by Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC) Alumnus 11:15 A.M.: Yoga Demonstration and Discussion by Judith Weaver, Co-Founder of Connected Warriors 11:45 P.M.: Healthy Harvest Cooking Demo by Zoraime Ramos-Cortes, Pathways Student and Jennifer McKee, DTR 12:15 P.M.: Music Performance by PRRC “Old Chimers,” led by Music Therapist, Shashanna Orellano, MM, MT-BC 12:45 P.M.: Drawing for Door Prizes MIAW Group Photo: October 7th, 3:30 P.M., Main Atrium Go GREEN! Please wear GREEN to show your support of Mental Illness Awareness Week and meet in the Main Atrium for a group photo. Recovery Film and Discussion: October 10th, 12 P.M.-2 P.M., Room 4B-292 Veterans and family members are invited to watch an educational recovery film about living with mental illness. Following the film there will be a discussion with a panel of Peer Specialists. Please share with Veterans and their family members who may be interested in learning about recovery.
