Congress leader: all parties should unite on Article 370 restoration A senior Congress leader Sunday called on all political parties in Jammu and Kashmirto take a united stand to get the original shape of Article 370 restored. Vice President J&K PCC, Abdul Gani Vakil said that leaders from mainstream political parties who are now-a-days crying for strengthening and protecting Article 370 cannot claim to be the saviors of people of Kashmir because it was during their respective regimes in the past when original spirit of Article 370 was deliberately weakened, amended and eroded to secure power for themselves. He said: if these saviors now claim to protect Article 370 then it is there duty to get its original status restored. He said history is best reference to the fact that from time to time it was different political parties in the State who were in power overtly and covertly helped to erode sanctity of Article 370 with a sole aim either to retain or regain power in the state and fulfill or achieve their short lived interests and objectives. Vakil, who is AICC Member,reiterated that simple crying will never be of any help to strengthen the special status of J&K rather it amounts to mere exploitation of masses. He said if the Chief Minister himself is serious and committed to prevent erosion or abrogation of Article 370 it is his duty to call all parties meeting besides utilize constitutional ways and means for the purpose of safeguarding Article 370. While addressing party workers convention at Hadipora Rafiabad in Varmul district, the former minister saidthat it is the need of the hour to debate on Article 370 and to see what amendments eroded the original shape of Article 370 and all parties should take a united stand to get the original shape of Article 370 restored and give strong signal to the centre that if they make any effort to erode or weaken article 370 all parties in the State will unitedly defeat their evil designs at the cost of any sacrifice.
