Congresss approval rating is at 14%. Actually, that seems high to me. Who are these 14% who approve of the idiots? Last time I posted about the GOP meme that President Obama is weak because he has not been able to solve the worlds complex problems like a super-hero. The other contradictory but somehow simultaneously-held GOP view is that President Obama is imperial--a veritable dictator--very tricky for such a weakling to pull off. Coming from the party that brought us the Unitary Executive under Bush, that is ironic. Why this criticism? Because he is trying to do something, anything to govern in the face of the most obstructive Congress in the history of the republic. They do NOTHING--even when the American people overwhelmingly favor a course of action. Raise the minimum wage? Nope. Equal pay for women? Nope. Reinstate the Voting Rights Act? Nope (this one at least I understand, they hate voting rights.) The Highway Bill--usually a bi-partisan no-brainer for infrastructure? Nope. Of course, they closed down government and nearly defaulted on our national full faith and credit. Even, in the face of this current international maelstrom, 25% of our embassies are lacking an ambassador, including our embassy in Russia. The Senate GOP are refusing to confirm the nominees. I hear the strains of the old song Call Me Irresponsible playing. Now they are going to leave for their August recess (why they bother to convene is anyones guess) without passing the VA bill (thats right, no funding to help the veterans) or emergency relief for the border crisis--about which they have whipped their side into a frenzy of paranoia and xenophobic weirdness--claiming that President Obama has enticed the children here with promises of freebies. Yeah, right. The crisis is such a political windfall for him--read heavy sarcasm here. As soon as they took over the House, the GOP reduced the calendar so they wouldnt have to work as many days. Not that it matters because they dont actually do anything useful but still--what are we paying for exactly? A ridiculous Benghazi probe and a stupid stunt of a lawsuit against the president. Political theater, both. And now I hear that 2/3 of Republicans want President Obama impeached. For what exactly? Apparently, they are not sure but they hate him so much he must have done SOMETHING impeachable, right? Like start a war under false pretenses; oh, no that was Bush. Torture people; oh, no that was Bush. Crash the economy; oh, no that was Bush. Allow the biggest terror attack in history on American soil and fail to get the perpetrator; oh, no that was Bush. So what has President Obama done? Despite the Congress, the economy has largely recovered and unemployment is 6.1%. Jobs could be better but we cant get the Highway or any other stimulus bill passed. The wars have been wound down although Iraq is still a horrible mess--which we created by invading it, mismanaging the occupation and causing a civil war--so it remains to be seen what happens there. The deficit has been cut by nearly half. And the ACA is working with more than 7 million Americans getting health care coverage although the GOP is busily trying to take it away. They hate that anything has been done. It ruins their perfect obstruction record. You want to impeach President Obama? All the Democratic strategists are licking their chops. It is like the moment in that debate when President Obama said, Please proceed, Governor Romney who then hoisted himself on his own act of terror petard. You have impeachment fever? Please proceed, Republicans...well see just how much more you can damage yourselves in the eyes of everyone else.
