Conrad Lake Fire Rehabilitation Efforts Complete Naches—The Naches Ranger District recently completed rehabilitation for the Conrad Lake Fire south of Rimrock Lake. The Forest Service is selling one-day permits for this Friday, October 25th, to retrieve the last of the dead material along Forest Road 1000. After this wood removal, all fire rehabilitation efforts will be complete and Forest Road 1000 will be reopened. The Conrad Lake Fire was a lightning-caused fire the occurred this past summer. Rehabilitation efforts lasted through the fall to ensure safe road conditions and to treat all of the fire and fuel break lines created during fire suppression efforts. The Naches Ranger District will be selling only 40 of the one-day permits to those interested in collecting one load of wood. The permit will cost $20.00 and the purchaser must be prepared to have an additional individual with them for traffic control purposes. Permit holders will have access down the South Fork Tieton, Forest Road 1000, beginning at 8am on Friday, October 25th. Material can be removed in lengths up to 8 feet. Each permitted load can only consist of a single axel vehicle. Individuals with trailers will not be permitted to collect the wood. “The dead trees that are now available were removed from the fuel break during the Conrad Lake Fire” said District Ranger Irene Davidson. “Rehabilitating the area after a fire includes the safe removal of the remaining decked wood.” Other rehab work included repairing Forest Road 1040-770. Permits will be sold on Thursday and Friday morning until 10am at the Naches Ranger Station. Permits and passes are only sold between 8am-12pm and 12:30pm-4pm. Only the first 40 individuals will receive the special one-day permit. The wood is currently decked along Forest Road 1000 within the turn outs. After the wood removal, Forest Road 1000 will be reopened to the public. The Naches Ranger District is grateful for the public’s cooperation during the Conrad Lake Fire closures.
