Conscious Parenting 101, Our Children Are Master Mirrors: I was trying to explain compassionate discernment verses judgment (condemnation) to my children, recently, when my wife lovingly tapped me on the shoulder and nudged me away from presenting a concept to the kids that they simply cannot process in their heads at the age they are at. While she is probably right, it still wont stop me from sharing the concepts that I have learned (and am learning) with Antonio (10) and Isabella (8). But her point is well taken, kids dont care about concepts - they pick up on energy and notice every behavior that we, as parents, exhibit. Conscious parenting is not a philosophy that involves trying to teach our children with words. We must actually embody our values and work to become more and more consistent in our own behavior. Parenting is, and has always been, such an up leveling of my personal growth and evolution. Our children glaringly reveal all of the incongruities between our concept of who we are (the principles we profess to live by) and our actual behavior. Practicing compassionate discernment is the gift I give to my children – my children give me the gift of a clear reflection of whether I am consistently living by my professed values and principles.
