Consciousness is a funny thing. We value it above all, we allow it to define us, yet remains our greatest mystery. But regardless of our intimate acquaintance with it, we fail the impossible task of sharing our own or sharing someone else subjective perception of the world. Ive often ponder on whether our need to feel social connection has any ties to our need to validate our reality. Spoken language leaves one lacking in expression and conviction of understanding, but there are things that transcend that invisible dividing barrier of separation. A hug, a kiss, a tear. They allow us to peer into our core, past the illusions, the smoke and mirrors, and see that which we binds us all together. Human nature weaves that blanket which we all rest upon, but music colors it. When people ask me what Colombia is like or to describe my culture, I wanna share with them Cumbia, Ballenatos and Mapale. I cannot know with absolute certainty what someone else feels when we listen to an African drum beat, mixed with native folklore and Spanish influence, but when even a small genuine smile appears, I feel that a small part of my experience, however small, is being shared with someone else, and there is little else that compares to that. https://youtube/watch?v=T4afgdnorss
