Considering starting a Twitter campaign called #härtergesagtalsgemeint for foreigners to share their strange encounters with true Berliners. Today Hipster Anne (a.k.a. me) spent 2 Euros on a super high quality, well designed Japanese envelope in bright orange, to send six matte postcards of street life in Berlin to my friend in California, who needed them for an artwork. (Yes, I realize how pretentious that sounds. But anyhow, that is what I was doing). Went to the post office to send them, where the possibly-former-east-German-elderly Post Madam greeted me with a Pffh... anyother of those bright envelopes that hurts my eyes. Ill get rid of it immediately Trouble is, she was serious! In defense of all the many Berliners with class - the lady in the design shop had just gone through the trouble of explaining where all the pictures on the postcards were taken and she was so pleased to hear what the post cards were going to be used for. She even let me use her washi-tape for free to decorate the envelope! Berlin - a city of contrast!
