Constructive Act # 111 - KEEP MOVING ONWARD - For those of you who dont know, the Davis Direction motto is Moving onward through life....Looking upward to God. Even if it is one baby step at a time or one step a day at first, keep moving onward. Your progress may be slow at first and you may not have the whole picture, but if you are moving onward....You will get there! Where is there? RECOVERY - or at peace if you are the loved one of an addict. Ive always been told that headlights only shine for a limited view, but as you move onward making progress, the view continues to increase. With each increase in the view, the picture becomes more clear and the destination becomes closer. We dont always have to start knowing the entire journey. Just know the goal and then continue to do the things and make the decisions that move you closer to the goal. So many times when we try to think about the big picture, it becomes very overwhelming and we become defeated. Some days your steps may be giant steps with lofty destinations. Other days your steps may be shuffles that just barely keep you from moving backwards. THATS OKAY! Every day doesnt have to be a marathon and its fine to rest and reflect along the way. Too many addicts think that recovery should come quickly just because they are not using anymore. Thats just the FIRST step. And YES - it is a giant step with a lofty destination, but the journey has just begun. As with any disease, the disease does not go away, you just learn how to manage it. Certainly dont forget the second part of the motto - Looking upward to God. I always told Davis that God was there for him in EVERY circumstance. Sometimes going to battle is harder than you could ever imagine. It doesnt always work out like we would like. BUT - Jesus suffered and died for OUR sins to be forgiven and to not consider ourselves worthy of the value of that gift is not up to us! Jesus made that decision and he deemed us worthy enough to make the sacrifice. So....... Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before. ONE STEP AT A TIME....
