Consulting One of the pieces of my work I like best is to consult To help my clients solve issues that they need am expert eye on Today I am helping a client to develop their computer based training programme As once the design and content is finalized it will train all their staff So they need an expert in educational psychology Curriculum design and where possible a content expert on that topic to make this more effective The main difficulty for me for consulting is understanding how to price my services As the project is multi faceted We sometimes cannot predict when the project is done So giving a price per day may not be accurate Pricing by service rendered but again since there is little in way of market pricing for what I do It is almost guess work These were the elements of business I had to and are still grappling with Suffice to say this project ranged in the higher 5 digits for training and consulting and curriculum design services Am writing this for those who recently asked me about how to start a business to be aware that price and value are two different things And that we must stand behind the value and quality of what we deliver and price is set mostly in our heads first rather than in that of the clients Especially if you are not a commodity Which any service provider like myself or a photographer or a body therapist or a ballet teacher is etc The end products are rather difficult to rate and the professional or wonderful or xyz experience of working with you crucial
