Consumer sentiment according to Coca Cola’s CEO Muhtar Kent For today’s post I have attached an interview that Muhtar Kent gave to the Nightly Business Report this year. In this video the interviewer and Muhtar Kent discuss consumer sentiment, the global economy, new regulations for the drinks’ industry and women in positions of leadership. Before you listen, I want to point out some interesting collocations and phrases that partner with ‘consumer’: 1- consumer sentiment: This means the feelings and actions of consumers. A good phrase that is used in the video is ‘from a consumer sentiment point of view’, which means from the perspective of consumers. 2- consumer spending habits: This means how consumers spend their money. 3- consumer confidence: Interestingly in English we like to partner this phrase with ‘high consumer confidence’(which means people are spending money) or ‘low consumer confidence’ (which means consumers are not really spending a lot of money at the moment). As you listen to the interview see if you can hear these phrases. Also remember that although Muhtar Kent is not a native speaker of English, he is proficient.
