He is more than 50 years old. His family members have not performed Upanayana samskaara (rites) for him. Is it necessary to do the same? Sri Sri Muralidhara swamiji: Even if a person is mentally retarded, Upanayana samskaram has to be done. This is not done in the usual procedure. The ‘Sutrakara Rishis’ have prescribed special procedures in our Shastras (Scriptures) which should be adapted in performing the Samskara for such a person. !!!
