Contract workers! Did you ever meet one? They are temporary and work for much less money than their co-workers. Have no rights and benefits. Dont look in your eyes and dont want people to know their lives. One of them told me his story. Has a very old mother. Sometimes he wishes shed die and forget how many times he was laid off. Holds two academic degrees. The first time he was laid off, was when in his fifties. Never refused a job, not even when he was offered minimum pay. Last September he received a job. Was very proud of it. The first day there, he felt like treating himself and prepared himself a big salad in the companys cafeteria. Thought he can pay cash, but he was quickly told that he has to use his visa card. Told them that he doesnt have a visa. They took away his salad and also wrote him up. As of that moment , whenever his manager walked towards him, he thought shes going to fire him. Finally it was Christmas . Permanent employees got invited to the companys party. Not him. Then everybody received a present. Not him. He didnt want to, but tears started running down his face . The manager saw him crying and brought him a small Christmas wrapped package and also a piece of paper. He opened the package and saw a candle. One candle! He cried again and was not able to thank her for the present. He was better used to the piece of paper. Again and again, he was laid off. Nobody thought about his rent and he had no idea how to pay it.
