Contrast: "Seek out argument and disputation for their own sake; the grave will supply plenty of time for silence." -- Christopher Hitchens, Letters to a Young Contrarian Do not argue or seek disputation: Shaykh Muhasabi. Shaykh Muhasabi gave reasons for his advice, the ones I remember is arguing will tend to divert your attention away from the important things, and argumentation generally ends up feeding the ego, and not finding truth as most claim. Those of you who have attended Muslim "Dialogues" in the states have seen this - its more like cheering on your team at a football game than seeking new knowledge and perceptions. DeBono also sees argumentation and critical thinking as only a small part of the spectrum of thinking, and while important, it can be a negative force if not balanced and handles correctly. Anyways Hitchens quote reminded me of this. Seems to me he was an immensely intelligent man, but not a particularly wise one. IMHO
