Contrast the primary elections, one from another, in 2014 , from state to state and its the proverbial analogy of a ping pong match. Anyone checking the calendar? Its late June and were over halfway there to the first Tuesday in November for the midterms. Heres the good news, in my review: Weve moved the ball in increments and where we havent moved the ball, at least notice has been served that the days of gluttony are ending for anyone of the elected elite status. Now, here is the bad news: There are bitter pills and painful lessons in assessing these elections already under our belt, containing should-have, would -have, could-haves. We have to move beyond the space marked rookie and take our place marked entrenched and battle tested. We need act with wisdom and honor, shrewdness and purpose. Every single election has laws...local, state and federal. Every single election has a history, even if its a new precinct or district. Every single election has thieves, politicos, operatives, first time voters and long time voters, the vote and duck out types, the glory grabbing types and everyone else in-between. Every election is brought to pass by highly imperfect people in the elected and the electorate, running for office, running campaigns, revved up to vote, running to vote at the last minute, reveling in a victory or reeling from a loss. Where pride is a cruel con, humility in my own experience, is a patient and loyal teacher. THIS IS OUR WATCH. Unless its the Godhead, please stop looking for the one person with all the answers. In fact, let me get real with you, let me myth-bust that ghost for you, that person does not exist. Not in the elected, or on Fox or talk radio or the blogs and books or the party itself or in any well meaning PAC or consulting operation. This is all on us, every single one of us, the electorate and the elected who are endeavored to save our nation. In order to do this, its going to take pieces of the puzzle that are not in one single depository, waiting to be fully discovered in order to know what we must know to save our national treasures. We must stop playing defense and start playing offense and we cant wait until after the 2014 midterms in November to make that change in our approach. Its time to chin up, buck up, grow up, re-up, wake more up, dig up, info-up, speak up and most of all, stop looking up at our elected as if they are rock stars and healers, stop looking down on voters, start looking at each in the eye as peers and start looking up to the Almighty and ask for more grace and help. Its the 11th hour and our country slips through our fingers a little more every day because of those who are either lined out to fundamentally transform our Republic, those who are stupid, or those who may be ignorant, but not stupid and at least trying to keep our Republic. Admittedly, I confess that I find myself straddling between those last two groups, but I give my word, I will work harder and smarter to be of better help and support in my own capacity here on Not On This Watch News.
