Controversial question and I dont want Christians giving me the usual theological mumbo jumbo or Atheists using this as an excuse to attack Christians. If God gave us this world to be its caretakers, then why do so many Christians praise the coming of the end of the world? A caretaker does not long for the end or destruction of those things which they have been given charge over unless their own failures and dislike for the job causes them to think this way. Caretakers want the best for the things they are given charge over and should it be destroyed or fall into ruin, this is a mark of their own failure... not the failure of the things they were made caretakers over. For centuries, Christians have longed for the end of the world and Christs return, but whats wrong with the world other than what weve done to it? In fact, the reason the Christian church made suicide a sin is because so many wanted to bring about the end of the world that, when they failed, they committed suicide thinking they would enter Heaven anyway. For centuries, we have seen fundamentalist extremists prophesizing the end of the world as a glorious event and yet, the world is a beautiful place and the only world in all the universe where we know there definately are higher life forms. This is the primary reason I am an Agnostic Christian as I cannot, and will not, accept this as what God would want. I want a better world and am not willing to give up on it as this was a gift to us and it is we who have failed... not the world or the other life living upon it. And why would God need to destroy the world when all he needs to do is have a thought that we should not exist and we will not... or, God could create a disease to wipe us out. There is no need to destroy the world unless were just a lab experiment and God is an emotionless scientist who wants to wipe the slate clean and try again. Then again, look at the vastness of the universe as if God were a scientist or simply an all seeing God... he only needs to walk away and let us destroy ourselves.
