Conversation continues about the crisis of unaccompanied minors fleeing violence. Yesterday, the Senate Homeland Security Committee examined Causes, Consequences, and Responses to the Rise in Apprehensions at the Southern Border. Unfortunately, many Senators (from both sides of the aisle) continue to push the idea that children are coming because of current U.S. immigration policies. That is FALSE. Pope Francis tells us that realities are greater than ideas. It is time for Congress to open their hearts to children like Anthony and Kenneth, killed in Honduras at a young age. Our hearts break that this is the reality, and we weep for these 13 and 7 year old brothers, their communities, and all those who are making the difficult decision take a dangerous journey to try and save their lives.
