Conversation with dad at lunch: Me: Dad, I have 2 dry, thin dairy cows that need a barn. Considering nothing has been done to repair the barn, there is no water yet at the other place & no corrals, may I put them in your barn? Dad: Why? Me: Because they are underweight, need shelter, extra groceries & access to water! Dad: ...dead silent & then finally I suppose so. Me: I have a Dexter cow with a vaginal prolapse that Harvey is coming to sew up. She will need to be in the barn as well until the stitches can come out. Dad: so you need help then (statement, not a question) Me: with what? Taking out stitches? Dad: exasperated sigh & growly voice - no! Getting them caught! Me: LMAO! NO dad, these are my cows, I dont need help. They will come in when I call. Dad: how the f*☆k are you going to bring them in on your own & get the G$. D@¿m things sorted out! Me: Dad, just because Im alone to do this does not mean I cant do it by myself. We have worked very hard to create a herd that is trained to come to the truck horn & that are so very quiet that in times like this I dont need anyones help. Dad: well I just dont see how the hell you can do that on your own. Call me when you need help & before you lose them all or get them all wound up. Me: dad, you are the only one who gets my cows wound up. I dont need help. They will come in for me just fine. Go haul your gravel. Needless to say, Sash & Ripley are waiting in the chute pen to be hauled to the barn. Lizzie, who was preg checked open on Saturday, was discovered with a vaginal prolapse (in & out, in & out) on Sunday is also in the chute pen; waiting for Harveys stitching skills & her ride over to the barn as well. I love how easy our cows are to handle. I love calling them in & watching them stampeding towards me. I love walking amongst them; touching, scratching & leaning on them. I love the fact that the calves are quiet & easy to handle because the cows have no fear of us. I love the first time I get to touch the youngsters in the fall & there was an awful lot of that this afternoon! I love the fact that the mommas come up to us looking for attention. I love that the calves come to check it out with their mommas. I love when the calves start to become confident & curious - sniffing, touching & tasting at us. I love that there are no kickers, no bunters, no fearful scramblers, no fence crawlers, no gate climbers; just happy, curious & quiet critters!
