Cook in New York City who had typhoid without any symptoms, but was still totally infectious and gave it to loads of people, killing perhaps 50 of them. Really interesting bit of public health history: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typhoid_Mary Her whole life she refused to believe that she was infected and refused to give any urine/stool samples to doctors but it became pretty obvious just from the sheer number of people who shed cooked for that fell ill, wherever she worked. In 1907 she was quarantined on an island in the East River and wasnt released until after 3 years she promised to change jobs. She didnt though - she changed her name, went on the run and carried on cooking. The public health dept tracked her down by the outbreaks she was causing, catching up with her after one at a hospital that affected 25 staff and killed 2. She was imprisoned on the quarantine island for the rest of her life.
