Cookeville Electric Department Requests Consumers to Voluntarily Reduce Electric Use. Due to the anticipated frigid temperatures and extremely high loads across the Tennessee Valley, TVA has initiated Step 20 of their Emergency Load Curtailment Plan. Step 20 requests voluntary reduction in power use to all electric power customers—residential, commercial and industrial. Some ways to accomplish this include – adjusting thermostats, reducing lighting, and turning off non-essential loads. The critical time for this reduction begins at 5:00 PM Central Standard Time on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Reductions are to continue until you are notified otherwise.
