Cool Song I Heard Yesterday - Ok. Beastie Boys. Pauls Boutique. Back in the mid 80s The Beastie Boys released Licensed To Ill and it was a HUGE hit. They followed it up Pauls Boutique. Im sure the folks at Capitol Records wanted Licensed To Ill II but ThBoys had different plans. Instead they put out a record so genius and ahead of its time that it shot so far over everybodys heads that it totally tanked in the charts hard. No one had ever heard anything like it and they certainly had no idea what to make of it so everyone simply ignored it and it went away. Flash forward ten years and Jumpin Junior is playing three or four songs from it every Thursday night and packs the floor with every one of them. The use of samples on this record is what makes it so damn good. I think that it is the best sample based record ever made and that includes anything made by my favorite sample guru, DJ Shadow. I have a bootleg of this album with the Beasties vocals removed and I like it just as much as the regular version. The samples are so ingeniously used and there is so little repetition that it never gets old. It just keeps flying at you at the speed of funk. Just amazing. This track is another remix courtesy of the fine folks at Ultimix Records. The first time I heard it I was blown away. The best known song on the album (Hey Ladies) mixed with my favorite song on the album (Shake Your Rump). With just enough changes to make it different but not so much to ruin it. Yeah, I kinda dig it. Enjoy!
