Coordinator- Millville, NJ Organization: American Littoral Society Job Title: Conservation Coordinator Location: Millville, NJ Hours and Compensation: Salary commensurate plus paid time off, health insurance, and other benefits Position Dates: May 15, 2014 Application Deadline: April 21, 2014 Posted on: March 5, 2014 Organization: The American Littoral Society is seeking a full-time conservation coordinator to work out of our Millville, New Jersey (Cumberland County) office. The primary objective of this position will be to educate the public about and advocate for increased protections for coastal wetlands, waterways and vital upland habitat in Cumberland, Salem, and Cape May Counties. This position reports to the Delaware Bayshore Project Manager. Responsibilities: With training from our staff, the conservation coordinator will assist the Delaware Bayshore Project manager by: -Educating the public about the importance of and need to protect our natural resources - Providing comment and testimony at municipal, county and regional hearings/meetings, where important debates about land-use policies, development proposals and planning initiatives are discussed. (Must be available to attend evening hearings) - Reviewing and analyzing site plans and developing alternative recommendations to limit environmental impacts and create public benefits. - Developing and delivering presentations to the public and officials about important coastal resources and tools needed to protect them. - Writing “White-Papers” and fact sheets about topics such as stream-corridor protection ordinances, conservation-design development and landowner incentive programs for a “municipal tool kit.” - Identifying priority sites in need of preservation along significant coastal tributaries of the Delaware Bay and performing outreach to landowners about how they can preserve their land. - Increasing media coverage of important environmental issues germane to the region, including writing letters to the editor, Op-eds, and giving interviews with the press. -Working with local communities on various environmental issues and projects to effect changes. Qualifications: - Bi-lingual, with the ability to speak, write, and translate into Spanish - A college graduate with background in environmental science, land use planning, or natural resource planning; or equivalent experience - A good communicator, with written and oral skills, and comfortable with giving public presentations and with advocacy - Available to work flexible hours - Computer literate and able to use MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (graphics/multimedia applications such as MS Illustrator and/or Photoshop, Flash, or video experience a plus) - Passionate about protecting Delaware Bay’s unique coastal wetlands habitat and wildlife - Extensive knowledge of natural resources in Cumberland, Salem, and/or Cape May County - Eager to empower others -An excellent time manager and project-oriented How to Apply: E-mail a cover letter, resume, and writing sample in MS Word file or PDF to Renée Brecht at [email protected].
