#Copied No country on this continent has historically had such a richness of human capital. Unfortunately, during the days of military dictatorships so many of your best and brightest fled abroad. Students overstayed their visas and professionals remained abroad, so reluctant were they to return home. As a result over 3 million Nigerians live and work in the United States and Canada to say nothing of the... large numbers in the United Kingdom. They everywhere excel in their contributions to all sectors of our society. I have said many times to American audiences that I regard Nigerians as the most accomplished immigrant group in the United States. What made Nigeria the country that I looked up to for so long was the fact that it produced some of the most educated, most talented black people to be found anywhere on earth. --Walter Carrington, Former US Ambassador to Nigeria. Now, ASUU tries to put our destiny in our hands and a certain inept strand of our diaspora, utterly without a sense of self-worth descends on us rather than on the new version of crackers and black enslavers ruling the nation. Who is paying some of these folks on USA-Africa dialogue? How can it be difficult to understand a man who says I no longer can give the best because am working with the worst, and I sure cannot give the best to my students in this circumstance? Come to my aid with minimum equipment lest Id produce doctors who may find it difficult locating on which side of the body the heart is lodged? But such minds fail. They fail because this is a last ditch battle to revamp public education, university down to the primary school, which ASUU will pursue in parliament even after calling off the current strike. We sure dont have to be abroad to live a decent life, and have a sense of hope. I cry writing this, and am writing my cry (something of Chiedus line). What a diaspora!
