Copied from an activist facebook friend This is from my friend - I want to see how long it stays up My status disappeared last night along with what Michael told me were some amazing comments and over 90 likes. How this happened is the strangest thing thats ever happened to me on FB. Someone had copied and pasted Michaels status box (because I had tagged him) and thats why we still have it. This is what I copied and pasted from Michaels status box just now: My mom made a beautiful status about me today describing my experience in the Israeli airport and how I was segregated from my class because I was the only Palestinian-American amongst 50 Jewish-American kids who I call family... Detained and interrogated for over 6 hours, I still kept a positive attitude and looked forward to just seeing my brothers and sisters on Kivunim... The interesting thing is, is that the status that my mom made about my experience in the Israeli airport is now gone. Erased. Disappeared from Facebook completely. My guess is that Mr. Netanyahu didnt like what my mommy had to say about his airport... Oh well, the truth hurts. So if the Israeli or American or whatever government takes this down too I will just repost it. Coexistence is very important, and they are just trying to obstruct the process. LUCKILY, one of my friends copied it and sent it to a friend of his to spread the word! So I have it right here if youd like to read it. Hurry though, it will probably be gone very soon! So. The Israelis detained my son again last Friday for over six hours at Ben Gurion airport upon his return from Europe, separating him from his entire class of 50 other students. Why? Because he was the only Palestinian American amongst a class of 50 Jewish American students. This has been the third time in a year that they have done this to him. However when my son called me two days after this happened to him, he focused not on the egregious racism that he was exposed to, not on how the interrogators, all three of them, took turns trying as best as they could to make him feel intimidated and alone, albeit unsuccessfully. No. Instead my son, the beautiful soul that he is, focused on the beauty that came out of this experience. He calmly, over FaceTime, told me how one of his R.A.s insisted on staying with him in the interrogation room for as long as she could, how his friend and fellow student Noah and others protested what the Israelis were doing at the airport, and how the program director, Jay, who wasnt traveling with the group, broke Shabbat and drove from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv to get him out of the horrible situation he was in….Michael focused on how when he arrived back on campus, he was greeted with multiple hugs of support and affirmation from his Jewish friends and fellow students who witnessed first hand the unfairness and blatant racism that anyone of Palestinian origin might face if God help them they decide to travel to their ancestral homeland. Despite his experience, he smiled and said, Its all worth it, I am so lucky to be here, the people I am with are amazing and I love them. Whether you are a Jew or a Palestinian, the land doesnt belong to either of us, we belong to the land and both peoples have a history to this mystical place and we all deserve to co-exist in peace, but also to co-exist equally. Michael Im so proud of the way you handled yourself. You have displayed a maturity, grace and compassion that some people wont have in ten lifetimes. You are indeed lucky, you are surrounded by the best and brightest representatives of the Jewish people, and they are lucky be with you as well for you represent and epitomize the best and the brightest of your people, and I get to be your mother. I love you......... I love you too mama.
