Coping With the #Benefits #System - @UnemployedNet @laidoffleftout @BrightonBenefit @WOWpetition I want to share what its like to be a #BenefitClaimant. Here are my 3 rules: 1) Always have someone with you, 2) Appeal, always appeal, 3) Keep written records of everything. #Benefits are an important & essential part of our society. After 9 months of waiting, I finally received a final response from the Independent Case Examiner #ICE. I feel like Ive been waiting for them to give birth – what a big, bouncing, bundle of disappointment they delivered. I wasnt really expecting them to find in my favour – or if they did, to find in my favour but be enormously tame with any criticism offered. Whats most disappointing is that theyve just made the same old mistakes. I makes me wonder how closely they read my letters and exactly who they consulted. I suspect they talked only and exclusively to #WorkProgramme and Department for Work and Pensions - DWP people. If those are the only voices you listen to, of course youre going to get it wrong. I feel disappointed but not surprised. I find it all tiresome rather than upsetting. If nothing else it shows me how crucial it is to complain about these people endlessly – because if theyre always going to excuse their appalling behaviour then the rest of us should give them a bloody hard time for it. Im going to keep on complaining about the Work Programme – and the rest of this #Workfare nonsense – until its discarded in a heap of dust, where it belongs.
