Coping with Guilt and Shame There are many out there who are going through feelings of guilt and shame in their lives, feeling as if no matter what they do in their lives they are not good enough to be children of God. Their sadness and depression and anxiety over their past sins and mistakes haunts them each and every day. Lets look at guilt more closely. Did you know that it is the responsibility of the Holy Spirit who resides within each of you, my brothers and sisters in Christ, to convict us of sin when we sin against God? Why you might ask? Lets look at John 16:8-11 for guidance. And when He [the Holy Spirit] has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. The answer is so that we look within ourselves, knowing that we did wrong and ruing the actions that we took part in, and ask the Lord for forgiveness for this sins we did and bring us back to Him so that He can continue to have fellowship with us. Be careful my brothers and sisters that you do not become numb to the Holy Spirits proddings. Your consciences can become seared and you may become deaf to the convictions and you can fall off the path toward the Lords will and purpose for your lives. Also, be careful not to create a view of the Lord that paints Him as happy to point out each and every thing we do wrong in our lives. This thought process is wrong because the Lord Jesus Christ came to take away our guilt and shame and anxiety and fear and replace those feelings with feelings of love and strength and understanding and truth and light. God loves you all and there is no reason for any of you to hold onto the past or anything that makes you feel sad or anxious or depressed or hateful to yourself or others. Let go of the guilt and shame and give to the Lord your burdens and let God free you of those bonds and refine and restore and transform your lives.
