In protest against today’s police action, the employees have decided to hold a demonstration in front of Chief Minister’s residence on Friday. They have also pledged to continue their agitation in the coming days till their demands are not conceded by the government. As part of agitation program, the employees will again hold a Civil Secretariat march on 14th of February. The next day, on 15th, they will observe a pen down strike throughout the State, said JCC president Abdul Qayoom Wani. “If our demands are not conceded to by that time, the employees will intensify their agitation the onus of which will lie with the government,” Wani said. As per JCC’s scheduled protest program, hundreds of government employees drawn from across the State assembled at Press Club Jammu Thursday morning and raised slogans against the State government, accusing it of betraying the employees by not implementing the agreement which it made with the JCC in 2011. “The government has been betraying the employees ever since it entered into an agreement in 2011”, the employees said, adding, “Since the signing of the agreement, the government has been seeking time, which is only a delaying tactics.” After staging protest, the employees then tried to take out a march towards the Civil Secretariat. As the employees were adamant and were assembling time and again, the police resorted to arrests. Around 400 protesters were arrested and taken to Gandhi Nagar Police Lines. While condemning the police action, Abdul Qayoom Wani said, “The government tactics to pressurize the employees will not deter them.” He said that police action was totally uncalled for as the employees were holding a peaceful protest in support of their demands, which have already been agreed upon by the government.
