Corinth Mayor: Why Buc-ees didnt come ... Buc-ees didnt come b/c it wasnt a good fit for our quaint neighborhood. We fought the good fight and we won. We won b/c we werent gonna be manipulated by the normal rhetoric that politicians try to shove down our throats. The incentives Buc-ees would have received was not worth our desire to keep our neighborhood free of unwanted traffic, panhandlers, the use of a million gallons of water per month, thereby causing a decrease in water pressure, and the waste it would have also produced. When I got up to speak that day and expressed those sentiments above ... I left the meeting disheartened that NO ONE on the committee heard a word spoken as 5 out of 6 voted to go ahead with the project. I was angry and let them know that the majority has spoken and we DO NOT want it. I was escorted out of the building. And the rest followed behind me. I NEVER felt so good when they walked out with me. I remember back in 94 when I fought a senator in NY who was trying to take away funding for disabled children and close down many programs from our public schools for disabled children. I fought him, and along with many other mothers we paved the cement in Brooklyn, Staten Island, and NYC. I spoke to so many people ... thousands upon thousands. Got a petition going and we won that fight as well. Today there are more schools to help disabled children in all those boroughs and NO MORE talk about not helping our disabled children. Moral of the story ... if you want to get things done. You have to be willing to fight the good fight. Buc-ees will find its place to plop. Just not in our neck of the woods. And NOT at our expense. And the Mayor is wrong. I didnt have to go to Buc-ees to know Buc-ees wasnt a good fit for us in Corinth. Just a little research on the internet was suffice enough for me to show up at the town hall meeting. SHOWING UP IS THE OPERATIVE WORD HERE. If you dont show up ... they will ride all over you.
