Coronation Street mechanic Luke Britton gets more than he - TopicsExpress

Coronation Street mechanic Luke Britton gets more than he bargained for next week when he eyes up Carla Barlow at The Rovers. Troubled Carla (Alison King) is quick to respond to the younger mans advances, but once they get back to her flat to take things further, Luke starts to have second thoughts. Here, Dean Fagan - who plays Luke - reveals all the gossip on the latest story development for his character. Has Luke been noticing Carla for a while? The first time Luke properly notices Carla is when hes in the garage. He spies her ankles as hes peering underneath a car and shes walking past in her high heels. Luke does kind of sit up and take notice of her at that point and he sees her in a different light. How much does Luke know about what Carla has been through recently? Luke has obviously been around throughout Tinas death because hes Stephs brother, so he knows all about Tina and Peter and so knows whats happened to Carla too. Hes heard bits and pieces along the way as well, but theyve never really had a conversation before they chat in the pub. What happens between them at The Rovers? Lukes had a few pints on this one occasion, so hes probably being a bit bawdy and larking around. Carla is an older woman so I think she does intrigue Luke when he sees her in the pub. He does ask himself whether shed go there with him and it becomes a bit of an exciting challenge at that point. Lukes not shy around the women, so he goes up to her and asks if he can buy her a drink. Its a turning point for Carla as well because she decides to forget about everything else and roll with it, so she says yes to the drink. Does Luke view Carla as a challenge, or does he genuinely want to get to know her? Carla is a very complicated woman and at first I think Luke does see her as a challenge, in the same way that he viewed Tina as a bit of a challenge too. Carla is quite off with him at first but then as time passes, he realises shes got a depth to her and theres much more beneath the surface. Does Luke feel sorry for Carla when he realises how fragile she is? Its quite complex for Luke - far more complex than he thought it ever would be when he first offered her a drink! As an older brother to Steph, he can kind of see a bit of Steph in Carla and he would never, ever want Steph to be hurt in the way that Carla has been. So I think he rapidly grows quite protective over Carla when he realises just how hurt shes been. Steph is a strong, independent girl and Luke sees that Carlas like that too - but shes been brought down by what Peter did to her. What are Lukes feelings when Carla invites him back to hers? Its a really, really awkward situation when Carla invites Luke back actually! Peter is there when Carla asks him, so Luke does feel a bit out of sorts about it. Luke doesnt want to say no, as hes quite tipsy and hes up for going back with her. Shes a strong-minded woman so she wont take no for an answer either! Luke does have his apprehensions, but goes along with it as she leads him out of the door. Once its just them two in her flat, he feels a bit more at ease - at least at first. What happens next? They have a bit of a laugh over Carlas music tastes and they chat as they look through her CD collection. Carla cant stop thinking and talking about Peter, but Luke is trying his best to take her mind off it. Why does Luke end up leaving? Luke realises what situation hes found himself in and hes out of his depth. He suddenly realises where Carlas head is and he doesnt feel it would be right for him to stay. He also realises that Carla is trying to get one up on Peter and that Lukes there to help her get to him. Luke realises just how caught up Carla is over Peter and knows that him and her would never work for that reason. He does really want to stay but its just too much baggage for him. Has Carla embarrassed herself while shes so drunk? From Lukes perspective, no she hasnt - but Carla feels mortified the day after. I think he knows shes been through a lot so when she tries to kiss him, he almost admires her bravery for doing it more than anything. I think Luke appreciates her spontaneity and it excites him. Is Luke worried about incurring the wrath of Peter? Luke is really angry at Peter. Hes seen affairs happen before and things happen between his own mum and dad, too. It angers Luke when he sees other men cheating on their wives and girlfriends and he detests the fact that Peter has been so deceitful to both Tina and Carla. I think Luke almost wants Peter to say something to him just so he can have a go at him back and ask him what exactly hes been playing at! Luke thinks Peter should have realised what hes got. How are things going for you on the show? Its been absolutely fantastic. Its been a massive learning curve. Working around lovely talented people has been amazing and everybody has been so welcoming. I think everybody should have a happy experience at work. I just want to do my best here. Coming up, I think Luke will have a romance on the cards in the near future - possibly with a close friend of Stephs!
