Correction campaign must not fail LOCAL VIEWPOINT Rashid Bin Mohammed Al-Fouzan Al-Riyadh I am totally convinced that the crackdown campaign against violating expatriates will not be a 100 percent success. This is both natural and logical. We are talking about a problem which has existed for many years. The US is a target of illegal infiltrators along its border with Mexico. Europe suffers from illegal migrants from the sea through its southern borders. Saudi Arabia has also been suffering from infiltrators through its southern border. So it is only logical that solutions will not come overnight. Our problems with illegal expatriates will not end in six months, or a year. However, we should not be held down by this. We should never give up or say we will not be able to end this problem. The Ministries of Interior, Labor and Commerce are determined to make the campaign a great success. They say that this not a campaign for a day or two, but an ongoing process. The three ministries are also determined not to exempt anyone or to postpone the campaign. The ministries are well aware that some expatriates believe the campaign will weaken in time. Therefore, we should prove to these expatriates that we mean business this time and that we will never back off. Any slacking off this time will have an adverse effect on the future of our country. We should also stress the important role played by citizens. It is the citizen who “smuggles, conceals and accommodates” violating expatriates. A violating expatriate cannot stay in this country without the help of a citizen. For this reason, citizens should fully cooperate with concerned government departments to make the crackdown campaign a success. The citizen should realize that when a violating expatriate leaves the country, this will be in his favor. It will save the country’s energy and resources, which might be consumed by expatriates. We want citizens to play a positive role, and at the same time, we want a firm law to punish citizens who cover up for violating expatriates. We should realize that our country can no longer bear this burden. The unemployment rate is high and violating expatriates only want to make quick money and run away.
