Cory’s progress continues. This was a decent weekend with a lot to do. As usual he was up at “O Dark Thirty” with me. Of course the first order of business for Cory is food. By 530 a.m. he already put away two sausage biscuits and was asking me what I was going to make for breakfast. I told him to go back to bed so I could read the paper. That worked for about an hour and then he was up again this time making a breakfast taco. By 7 a.m. the 3 year old munchkin, my grandson Jayden, was up so there goes the paper and a relaxing Saturday morning. Time for the bacon, eggs and toast. Later in the morning Cory and I took a ride over to Lowes to get a new tool box for his bicycle tools. The one he always had with him in his car was destroyed in the accident. We were able to recover it along with most of his specialty tools. I’m figuring that if I get him to clean out the damaged box, arrange his tools in the new box it might drive some memories and some interest in getting back into the bicycle scene. If not to ride (he can’t at least for another year) then maybe into fixing them. He always enjoyed doing that. We spent about an hour in the garage going through everything and just talking about some of the tools. It’s amazing how many task specific tools there are to repair bikes. And Cory remembered them all and how to use them so that is a great step in the right direction. Unfortunately his body is still having some difficulty with temperature regulation so we had to come into the A/C to cool off for a while. Sunday was another day together. We spent some time over at the lake fishing. Nothing was hitting at all so we gave that up after about an hour. But it was good to see that he still had the ability to cast out with a bait caster reel. For those of you who fish, you know how hard that can be without getting a tangled bird’s nest on the reel. Heck, I still have trouble with that and I’m not the one who got banged up in an accident! Overall, he’s improving every day. And every day when I come home he tells me again how happy he is to have another day.
