Could Ramayana be a story of conflict between Aryans and Non- Aryans? Ramayana shall be viewed on two levels : 1)Victory of Good over Evil. 2)Power Struggle between Aryans and Non-Aryans. Aryans were ruling in areas North of Vindhya whereas, non-aryans to its South. Ravan was a Maha Brahman a follower of Shiva, a great scholar, a capable ruler and a maestro of the veena, but someone who wished to overpower the Devas. His ten heads represents that his knowledge of the six shastras and the four Vedas According to scholars, since Ravana defeated Devas (Aryans?) number of times, they wanted to get rid of him. Many Scholars believe that Rama vanvas, kidnnaping of Sita and subsequent war as a result, was all maneuvered. Hanuman and other monkeys were actually a forest-dwelling race, whose King Vali, the king of Kishkindha, had defeated Ravana who later made truce with Vali. So, The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Though Rama preferred Sugriva.
