Could this be Nairobi’s most pampered baby? Well, from the grand reception he received, baby Jayden Cole Otieno, is one lucky child. His father, Eric Otieno hired a Hummer limousine, a Range Rover Sport and a convoy to escort his wife, Irene Asewe, who had delivered at a city hospital that cost him Sh320,000. The first car was a silver Chrysler that carried the photography and video team, then it was followed by a Silver Prado. In the Hummer Limousine, the new parents and the baby sat. A Range Rover Sport closed the convoy, tailing in the rear. It carried friends. This is not inclusive of the hospital bill, which, Otieno revealed cost around Sh300,000. There was also champagne popping and a photo session for the new-born. Speaking to The Nairobian, he revealed that it was a great moment in his life and he wanted to spoil his child. “People pay for expensive cars to ferry them during weddings, what’s wrong with hiring an expensive car for my baby’s first trip on earth?” he posed. The ICT specialist claims if his family lived far from the hospital, then, he could have opted for a helicopter to ferry his wife and child. “I booked my wife in the best hospital in Nairobi, and hired the best doctors possible so that she could be under the best medical team. I wanted the best treatment. I live in Kileleshwa which is not far from the hospital but if we were living far, then, I would have hired a helicopter,” he said. Otieno added that he was not extravagant, but just wanted to make his son’s first day on earth memorable. “I am a devouted Christian, and fatherhood is a gift from God. I feel privileged that I am now a father. Already, I have booked a good school where I will enroll him,” he said. His workmates also joined in the celebration and surprised the new parents with a party when they got home. “We were surprised to get home and find the entire office waiting to celebrate with us,” he said. Asked if it is true the baby’s clothes were imported from the United Kingdom where the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William’s wife shops, Otieno just laughed and said: “All I know is that I am overwhelmed by the feeling of seeing my son, my flesh and blood.”
