Count-Down to End Grass/makuti-thatched/Mud/Makaratasi-walled Houses in Kenya-DEADLINE 2022. Giving our Rural Families a Dignified Life [this is Grace Atienos house in Nyanza-a widow with 9 children aged below 15. what hope does she ever have to make beyond this in her life-time and even her children? Possibly about 70%+ Kenyans live nearly like this! Will these be the inheritance of the young generation? Is this the house- you want to bestow to your child? Is this what we as a society, community, individuals or government want to bestow to our youths? I will change this.] Last week I told you that under my Presidency, I will create 6,000 jobs for each and every day that you will allow me be your President from 2017. I reiterate that I will do so. In fact 6,000 is the minimal level. Na hiyo ni kionjo tu! Such a feat is so simple for any government that is seriously committed from its heart-[not politicking around!]-to benefit, transform and develop its people. Today, I give you even more better news. Under my Presidency- grass/makuti/thatched houses with walls of mud, cowdung, cartons and nylon papers will be consigned in the dustbin of history and our museums. Close to 70% of our rural families live in shameful conditions. All over Kenya from Kwale to Lamu to Baringo, Garissa, Mandera, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, to Siaya, Migori, to Pokot, Turkana, Busia, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Marsabit, etc families still live in shacks. There is no more grass in Central Kenya or Embu etc regions, so most families here improvise tins (madebe) as roofs with mud that easily peels off. Kenya should not enter the 22nd century in such embarrassing condition. Thats NOT Kenya that I dream of. Thats why my Government will roll out a carefully thought out program to assist our rural families construct decent and dignified houses to replace all grass/makuti/thatched-mud/makaratasi walled houses. The program will target 10million homes, will cost my government almost nothing but will instead save the country billions of shillings. This 10million houses will be done within 5 years. So stand on your door or window and if you see such a house, or you see one as you go to the market, do know this,-that in 2022, a well-done eye-catching house will be standing on that same spot God keeping us all safe. I cant wait to see that day when our countryside will be glittering with modern 22nd century houses.
