And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. Matthew 4:4 KJV But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Gather a few grocery items in a paper bag. Then, take out the items one at a time and ask your kids to guess what each item costs. Now ask them how much they would pay for each item if they were stranded in the desert and hadnt eaten in more than a week. Discuss the fact that Esau foolishly traded the most valuable thing he had -- his birthright -- for a bowl of soup. Explain that when we accept Christ as our Savior, we become children of God, a birthright that we should value above everything else.
