Countdown to Katherines marriage to Arthur: November 4th -Katherine of Aragon and Arthur Tudor meet for the first time on this day in Dogmersfield, (a palace in Hampshire that belonged to the Bishop of Bath) in 1501. According to Spanish Ambassador Pedro de Ayala, her parents had given strict orders that Katherine should not be seen until the day of her marriage but Henry VII would have none of that and that he and Arthur would see her no matter what. Being practical Katherine came forward and presented herself. Both Henry and Arthur were well pleased. November 12 -Eight days after, she entered London in the Duke of Buckinghams company and was met with a great reception. It was commented that she thrilled the hearts of everyone having all those qualities that make for beauty in a very charming young girl. Dressed in the Spanish fashions, wearing her hair loose, she wore a wide brim headdress, rather like a Cardinals hat that was held together by a golden lace that raised many eyebrows at the time. Her ladies were dressed in similar fashion. Wedding Eve -Katherine spent this day with her future mother in law at Baynards Castle. November 14 -She and Arthur were married at St. Pauls Cathedral. It was a ceremony worthy of future Kings. Henry had great expectations for his firstborn son, his name evokes the old myths and legends of chivalry of King Arthur and Camelot. Naturally so, both the Prince and now Princess of Wales were compared to Arthur and Guinevere, conveniently omitting Guineveres dalliances. Katherine was dressed in white satin, her veil bordered with a broad band of pearls, gold threads and precious stones and Arthur dressed alike in white.
