County Commissioners Approve Criteria for Special Events/Weddings in Small Tract Agricultural Areas At tonight’s Public Hearing, the Board of County Commissioners approved changes to the Zoning Code regarding Special Events/Weddings in Small Tract Agricultural areas. Staff was directed to proceed with Findings of Fact and drafting a resolution that will be signed by the Board in a public meeting at a future date. After tonight’s hearing, Commissioner Todd Mielke commented that the board’s desire is to bring predictability and consistency to the issue. As a result of tonight’s action, any owner of any property located in the Small Tract Agricultural zone may submit an application for a Temporary Use Permit, provided that the specific criteria for the temporary use are met. Failure to meet the conditions will mean that permits will NOT be renewed. Two examples of the criteria are: • Hours of operation shall occur between 10:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Weddings and/or events shall be limited to Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning the first weekend of May and continuing to the last weekend of October. • The temporary use permit may grant up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) events per season (as defined above). No more than a maximum of two-hundred (200) guests/invitees shall be allowed to attend any individual wedding/event allowed under the temporary use permit. The entire list of specific criteria is available at spokanecounty.org/bp or by contacting the Building and Planning Department at (509) 477-3675.
