Courage required in Government to do what Supreme Court left Two - TopicsExpress

Courage required in Government to do what Supreme Court left Two successive landmark verdicts from Supreme Court for having an effective check of entry of wrong-doers in legislature leaves a big gap of allowing those having been already convicted by trial courts but having filed appeals in superior courts to remain in legislative system thus allowing law-breakers as law-makers. There have also been cases like infamous JMM-bribery case where some notorious Parliamentarians were not convicted by Supreme Court because their act for voting in favour of PV Narsimharao government in Parliament after being bribed was considered immunized being part of Parliamentary proceedings. Union government should exhibit courage to fill the big gaps by bringing an ordinance putting a bar on contesting elections for those convicted by any court but with appeals against court-verdicts pending in higher courts. Secondly immunity available from legislative proceedings should be abolished to bring culprits like of JMM-bribery case convicted under normal law of land. It will also prevent Parliament House being misused as shelter-house by absconding Parliamentarians.
