Course 165 Speed 18.5 knots Wind 18 knots from the South West Temperature 14 Celsius – 57 Farenthingy Sky Overcast, light rain Good morning everyone and after two busy days exploring Alaska the guests will be enjoying a relaxing day at sea, especially as last night we moved the clocks forward one hour so I am sure there are a few “snoozing” signs out. Later this morning despite the not so pleasant temperatures and some light rain we have 28 guests who have signed up for their ice bucket challenge. We will do this on mass at the back of Deck 9 aft by the pool and while guests are responsible for filming it on their own cameras and eyephones etc we provide the buckets, towels and blankets. By the way, I made sure the beverage operations manager knows that we do this properly which means proper ice cold water and lashings of ice cubes. It is great to see that the challenge continues and that money continues to be raised to find the cure for ALS. It is 7:45am here and I have my cabin TV on watching our local news feed which here comes from Denver. I do love American local news stations. They operate on a small budget it appears that means they can only respond to fires, and traffic jams. And that when there’s a helicopter involved, they’ll stand under it so they have to shout. There’s always an anchor lady with huge hair and teeth so white that when she smiles small animals are blinded. They will tell you something about the environment, a murder, a dog, possibly on a skateboard and a local government official called Bob who has been caught wearing stockings and suspenders. They do this sitting side by side at the news desk, having giggling conversations with each other in between commercials for heartburn pills and Viagra. Yep, soon I will be back in the world of the BBC but we have satellite coverage at my house across Europe which means I will be getting my news from Italian stations. Not because their reporting is first, fast and accurate ………………..but because the female news anchors are topless. Wish you were here
