Course outline -- Swing (Beginners) Footwear : any comfortable shoes for you to bounce on the floor. Experiencing dance will be the primary focus to this 8/wk course. The course will not only introduce you to the basics of Swing but will also use this dance form to further an awareness of what we can do with our bodies and what we can discover with our own innate rhythm. Technically, this is for beginners but all levels are welcome to join us. I believe that even a more advanced Swing dancer can benefit from reviewing the basics. Foot and figure patterns will be introduced and the purpose will be to see how these are connected to the music you hear. And since Swing is a social dance we will also cover the dynamics and the sense of how to move with another person. Just as with any dance form Swing has evolved into different disciplines. This course will include the East Coast Swing, Boogie-woogie and Jive which are the most popular styles. The speed of learning and execution will be determined by the speed of progression of the group. The following are some of the music we will dance to: 1. Mack the Knife - Bobby Darin (What Women Want) 2. Jump, Jive an Wail - Louis Prima, Kelly Smith.... (50s greatest RocknRoll) 3. Runaway Baby - Bruno Mars (Doowops and Hooligans) 4. Jim Dandy - Black Oak Arkansas (Dazed and Confused) 5. Everything - Michael Bublé (meets Madison Square Garden) 6. Ballroom 1939-45 - Various Artist (Ballroom les plus Belles Années (vol.1)) 7. The Dirty Boogie - The Brian Seltzer Orchestra (The Dirty Boogie) 8. Hooked on Swing - Larry Elgart & his Manhattan Swing Orchestra ( Hooked on Swing) Please do not hesitate to write to me. I will always be open to any inquiries regarding the class, to social dance in general or to my experience as a dance teacher. Happy Wednesday and lets start this first day of the rest of our lives with a dance. Gil Sanchez
