Court grants divorce to mother of four for lack of maintenance ilorin.info/fullnews.php?id=10891 A Kaiama Area Court in Kwara on Thursday dissolved a marriage between a mother of four, Aminat Burade, and her husband, Mohammed Burade, for lack of maintenance. Aminat, of Gwaria in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara, said in her petition before Malam Ahmed Yahaya, that the respondent had failed to see her as a wife haven abandoned her for a long time. She, therefore, urged the court to dissolve the marriage that produced four children, for lack of care, maintenance and abandonment. The respondent was, however, not present in court. In his judgment, Yahaya said the case had suffered several adjournments meant to enable the respondent to appear. He, however, observed that failure of the defendant to appear in court was an indication that he was no longer interested in the union. “The divorce suit is hereby entered in favour of the plaintiff and certificate be issued upon payment of necessary court fee. “Any aggrieved party has a right to appeal to an Area Court in Ilorin within 30 days,’’ Yahaya ruled, and ordered Aminat to observe a three-month Iddah (Islamic period of waiting) before she could remarry.
