(Courtesy Photo) PRESENTATION PLANNED Hidalgo Medical Services Forward NM SMASH (Summer Math and Science & Healthcare Academy), in partnership with the University of New Mexico Health Careers Academy, will host a community presentation on research projects from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at the Besse-Forward Global Resource Center on the Western New Mexico University campus. This is the first program to be hosted outside of Albuquerque. The participants are incoming high school sophomores, juniors and seniors from Grant, Hidalgo and Luna counties. "This is an opportunity for the students to enhance math, science and language art skills, learn about health careers from more than 25 health care professionals, cultural diversity, and receive preparatory ACT instruction," according to a news release. "Students have completed three ACT practice tests thus far and are averaging a 20 percent increase in scoring."
