{Courtesy of Peter Curran} {If Lamont as FM gave you nightmares, Murphy...} I predicted exactly how this debate would unfold to my family at the start - Jim Murphy - in his unctuous Whispering Jim persona - would address himself to Laura Bicker without a single interruption from Dennis Canavan, a gentleman. Dennis would then open, to be interrupted by Murphy, in a rapid trasformation to Backroom Labour Bruiser Jim. Dennis would make the cardinal mistake of engaging with him, instead of remaining with Laura (missing an open goal by not saying the currency WILL be sterling because he doesnt want it to be sterling!). Things would then degenerate into an uninformative - but hugely entertaining BT Labour-style slanging match, with beautiful Laura Bicker rapidly abandoning doomed-to-failure attempts to get between the combatants, and wisely sitting back in amusement at the spectacle of how grown men can behave like political idiots when the testosterone kicks in. And so it came to pass, giving me and the viewers a piece of much-needed light relief on the night before Scotlands momentous decision.
